DRIVEN IN PART BY TYPE 2 INFLAMMATION3,4
prevalence in warm, humid regions1,5
This is not an exhaustive list of all CRS subtypes.4
Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyps: DUPIXENT is indicated as an add-on maintenance treatment in adult and pediatric patients aged 12 years and older with inadequately controlled chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP).
Allergic Fungal Rhinosinusitis: DUPIXENT is indicated for the treatment of adult and pediatric patients aged 6 years and older with allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS) who have a history of sino-nasal surgery.
AFRS is characterized by IgE-mediated hypersensitivity to fungal elements and the accumulation of eosinophilic mucin within the sinuses.1
FEATURES
Peanut-Buttery Mucus:
Thick, sticky, green-to-black mucus6
Fungal Species:
Positive fungal stain, most commonly species of Aspergillus or Curvularia6-8
Total Serum IgE:
Markedly elevated total IgE levels (>500 IU /mL), often exceeding 1000 IU/mL6,9
AFRS progression can lead to severe structural consequences, including bone erosion10
UNMET NEED
Surgery
Sinus surgery is aimed at eliminating fungal debris and opening sinuses.13
However, recurrence rates with surgery can be high:
occurs within 1 year7
Steroids
Systemic steroids are used to reduce inflammation. Cumulative long-term use of systemic steroids can cause negative consequences, including1:
- Hyperglycemia
- Infection
- Poor wound healing
- Avascular necrosis
- Increased ocular pressure
This is not an exhaustive list of all potential side effects associated with systemic steroids.1
Other treatments
For antifungal agents, there is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against antifungal therapy in AFRS, according to the International Consensus Statement on Allergy and Rhinology.14
AERD, aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease; CRS, chronic rhinosinusitis.

- Newly diagnosed with AFRS following sino-nasal surgery; had previously been prescribed systemic steroids to address symptoms
- Presenting with thick, sticky, peanut butter–like mucus
- AFRS symptoms include nasal congestion with facial pain
